TREATMENT OF SKIN TUMOURS

Skin cancer - Prof. Dr Charlotte Holm Mühlbauer is a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery

The art of aesthetic reconstruction is an essential part of plastic surgery.

Black skin cancer

We use the term skin cancer to summarise a variety of different cancers that develop on the skin. The most dangerous is the so-called black skin cancer, malignant melanoma. Melanoma affects all age groups and is responsible for the most deaths of all types of skin cancer.

White skin cancer

However, white skin cancer is much more common. White skin cancer includes basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma as well as their precursors. It mainly affects older people and is often the result of many years of unprotected exposure to the sun. Basal cell carcinoma (basal cell carcinoma) does not form metastases, but destroys the tissue at the site where the tumour grows. It is therefore extremely important to remove these skin tumours and to examine the removed tissue histologically.

Patients with facial skin cancer in particular are afraid of disfigurement. Defects on the face are a major psychological burden for patients. As a plastic surgeon, I can reassure you and almost always promise a complete reconstruction and a perfect cosmetic result.

At the ATOS Clinic Munich, we have the unique opportunity to use frozen section diagnostics. The removed tissue is pathologically examined and assessed while the operation is still in progress. This allows us to reduce the defect caused by the tumour removal to a minimum, which is particularly important in the face. In addition, our patients are spared unnecessary further operations.
We can usually close the remaining defect using plastic surgery techniques to ensure an optimal cosmetic result.
We also gently remove other changes to the soft tissue such as moles, liver spots or lipomas with particular consideration for an aesthetically pleasing result and inconspicuous scarring.

The operations are usually performed under local anaesthetic on an outpatient basis. The costs are covered by health insurance.

The procedure is carried out at the ATOS Clinic in Munich, where I also have my practice.
